Martin-Baker Sports and Social Club was opened by Sir James Martin on Saturday 16th September, 1961. It was built for the employees of Martin-Baker Aircraft Company Limited, which is also based in Denham. Over the 49 years, the Club has been in existence and has grown from the original single building (which now serves as the members bar and snooker room) into a multi room building, incorporating a large function room which doubles as a badminton court.
In the early 70’s, there were over one thousand full members from Martin-Baker Aircraft Company Limited. The Martin-Baker football team was one of the best amateur teams in the London area, winning many trophies along the way. The youth team during the 90’s was also very successful; winning all their League and Cup games and going undefeated the whole season. The Club also has had darts teams of a very high standard, winning the local league.
The function hall is available to hire* for anniversaries, birthdays, engagement parties and wedding receptions. There has also been live music with local bands playing within the hall.
The Club also has an active policy to support charitable functions using the club facilities. The Hillingdon Hospital Group (the Cherubs) hold their annual fund raising summer fair on the sports field and also their Christmas party. Every year the Club presents a Christmas party or pantomime for members and the local children.
The bar within the Club has a big screen for major sporting events. Other events, such as disco nights and race nights also take place. The Club actively encourages local residence to join and enjoy the club.
The Club has a range of activities available for the members, including aerobics, badminton, cricket, football, snooker, pool, darts, ballroom dancing, old time dancing and karate.
Becoming a member
Becoming a member of the Martin-Baker Sports and Social Club is simple. Either contact us or pop into the club and we will register you as a member. Membership is charged at £18 per annum.
